Homage to Major J S Suri - 23/09/09
Major J S Suri and 3 Jawans were martyred in a battle against Terror in two separate
long-drawn gun battles with militants in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, September
23, 2009. Five terrorists, including two top Pakistani Hizbul Mujahideen commanders,
were also shot dead. The gun battle with militants is going on in Bandipora and
Rafiabad areas of the Kashmir Valley.
Major J S Suri of the Special Operation Group was martyred along with a soldier
during the Bandipora encounter. Two soldiers also died during gunfight with militants
in Rafiabad area. Acting on information about the presence of Hizbul Commanders
Pasha and Mussa in a house at Boniyari village of Bandipora, Major J S Suri and
a lance naik entered the premises from the roof to take the militants by surprise,
official sources said. However, the militants opened fire killing Suri and the lance
naik on the spot. This indicates increasing attempts of infiltrations by the militants
to cross over the border.
Major J.S. Suri was the fourth soldier of the same rank killed during operations
in the State in the past six months. Army sources said that infiltration attempts
from across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir was a common phenomenon
as militants plan to sneak in ahead of winter. In the past nine months, security
forces killed 65 militants who tried to make their way in against 60 killed during
the period last year.
Flags of Honour Foundation salutes and honours this brave Martyr.
